On 8 November 2016, the French National Assembly definitively adopted the bill on transparency, the fight against corruption and the modernisation of the economy, an act known as the "SAPIN II Act". The main component of the legislation is the creation of a general status and protection system for whistle-blowers.  It also aims to strengthen the fight against corruption by establishing a service to prevent and detect corruption. The Sapin II Act also contains new provisions to prohibit any form of direct or indirect promotional communication by electronic means, to customers or prospects who may be private individuals. This ban should mainly apply when such communication relates to the provision of investment services related to derivatives that are not admitted to trading on a regulated market or a multilateral trading facility.
